Emile Lousse Essay Prize
The ICHRPI awards annually the Emile Lousse Prize, named in honour of Professor Emile Lousse, a leading Belgian medieval scholar who was one of the founding fathers of the International Commission. From 2011 to 2026, the prize recognized the best article accepted for publication in Parliaments, Estates & Representation / Parlements, États & Représentation. From 2026 onwards, the Commission has decided to change the rules and award the prize to the best book on parliamentary history published during the year.
The prize will be awarded to books on parliamentary history that have already been published during the year before the next congress in any of the languages of the Commission’s sections. The prize will be endowed with €1,000. Nominations may be submitted by members of the Direction or the Editorial Board and will be sent to the Director of Publications, Dr Coleman Dennehy. The Director of Publications will convene a small adjudicating committee. The winner of the prize will be announced at the following congress, during one of the Commission’s receptions.
